Carlos
Grade: 2
Program: Asphalt Green, Upper East Side
Activities: Soccer, Baseball, Summer Day Camp
Carlos struggled with expressive language during preschool and kindergarten. After discovering his love for soccer, UE helped to fund his participation in several athletic programs for the past two years. His teachers say that Carlos has become an active participant in classroom discussions and is thriving academically and socially. Carlos now plays on Asphalt Green’s invitation-only traveling soccer team.

Liani
Grade: 2
Program: Ballet Academy East, Upper East Side
Activity: Ballet
Liani has studied ballet since January 2008. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking home and community, her time in ballet class helps to foster English language acquisition and social growth. Liani’s study of ballet has also inspired her writing in school as well as sparked an interest in learning French and taking music lessons.

Amy
Grade: 1
Programs: Rutgers Church, Upper West Side
Activities: Tap Dancing, Ballet, Art
Amy struggled to interact with students and teachers while in preschool. UE helped her to enroll in a variety of dance and art classes which have bolstered her social confidence. Amy’s teacher reports that her oral and written language skills have improved dramatically. Amy now excitedly talks with her classmates about her dance experiences and proudly totes her ballet and tap shoes to school on dance days.
