Parent Perspectives

Carmela is the mother of four children whom UE has helped to participate in sports, dance and arts programs. As a result of accompanying her children to these activities, Carmela speaks candidly about overcoming her own fear of interacting with people from different socio-economic backgrounds, including her children’s instructors and teachers. Carmela now actively encourages other parents to seek enrichment opportunities for their children through UE.

Claribel has struggled over the years to get her son, Juan, the services necessary to address his physical developmental challenges. Juan’s school began to provide physical and occupational therapy sessions this year, but as the summer approached, she was deeply concerned about him not receiving therapy for over two months. UE guided her to My Gym and helped to secure a scholarship for Juan. She and her husband, Severino, take Juan on the subway each week and love watching their son overcome new challenges and learn with other children.
